LETTERS FROM CO-PRESIDENTS...
Hi, it seems like fall had just figured its almost over. Our group has been busy with all of Kathy's well planned programs and our hard working committee chairpersons and members. It seems like Halloween was just last week, now its Thanksgiving with Christmas waiting in the wings.
Stan Hywet put on a wonderful show. Their talent exploded like fireworks. The Quilt Show was just as great. I'm a quilter off and on but they really are great.
I'm looking forward to meeting our new friends in New Zealand and the January Challenge. It should be fun to share and learn more about our fellow members. Your challenge will be here in January along with many other new projects.
Enjoy the holidays and I look forward to 2010 with bright eyes and expectations.
Walk in Peace, Cass
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with family, friends, fun, and of course, food. I made time to stitch and hope you did too, especially with Christmas right around the corner. Don't forget to bring in your completed projects, old or new, for show and tell. We welcome them at every meeting.
The last three months have been filled with a lot of excitement beginning with great programs and the EGA banner planned by Kathy Miller; the upcoming January Challenge, chaired by Cass Dreby; announcement that the May dinner is being reinstated this year where the EGA banner and your January Challenge will be unveiled; partnership with the Ashburton Guild of South Island, New Zealand through the Hands Across the Water program; the decisions, by majority vote of attending members, to participate in the Youth Program, also chaired by Cass Dreby, and to relocate our meeting place to the North Olmsted Library bginning with our September 2010 meeting. But don't go away, there's more to come in the upcoming year!!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and upcoming Christmas holidays, I want to thank fellow officers, committee chairs and their committee members for accepting the challenges I imposed on you all and look forward to your continued successes throughout the remainder of the year.
May you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year filled with good health, family, prosperity, and of course, plenty of time for stitching! Christine Osberg
ALSO FROM CASS...
What is a challenge? It is an adventure for learning and growing. There will be a bag with our theme and several items included. You get to interpret the theme how you want and create whatever you want. The only rules are you must use all items in the bag and do your own thing. We will present our projects at the May meeting. It’s not a test to be graded. Have fun and enjoy. Cass.

Christmas Tree Fund Raiser
Thanks to everyone who donated an ornament for the tree we decorated for Westlake Porter Llibrary. Our beautiful tree sold for $26. Not bad! Next year we would like to try our hand at one of those wreaths!

Bear Delivery 2009
Karyl Kitchen,
our philanthropy person, and her bear helpers, Allan and Valerie Mcallister,
made 3 deliveries to our local hospitals this year. On July 6, we delivered
44 bears to Lakewood Hospital. Then on November 5, we made a trip to
Metro Hospital to which we gave 42 bears. We delivered 50 bears to Fairview
Hospital.
All of the hospitals were very grateful to receive the bears for their little patients. We even received a picture from Metro Hospital showing a little girl with one of our bears.
It is so rewarding to bring these bears to the hospitals and getting hugs from the mothers of the little patients and thanks from the workers.
Condolences go out to our dear member, Lou Hague on the passing of her husband, Reggie, on December 3rd. Reggie was 80 years of age. They had been married 54 years. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Lou in this difficult time. We love you.
FROM KATHY
MILLER, VP PROGRAMS
First I would like to wish all of you Seasons Greeting. May you be blessed with peace and prosperity in this coming year.
We have done some great projects the last three months; the needlepoint needle holder; a biscornu pincushion; a temari ball ornament. Please bring your completed temari balls to the next meeting. I'd like to take some pictures of the gorgeous finished projects. I hope you all enjoyed these programs.
We have a great line-up of projects for you in the upcoming months. Things to look forward to include candlewicking in December taught by Dona Stovicek; pulled thread bookmark in January taught by Kathy Miller; and a treasure pouch taught by Christine Osberg. I hope you enjoy the line-
up and feel free to talk to me about any ideas you may have or if you know of someone who would like to teach our group a new skill. I'm always open to new ideas.
Please don't forget to bring your needlework that you would like to donate to our EGA GLR banner. We have some exquisite pieces donated already and are well on our way to a beautiful sampling of all the things we do. Cheers, Kathy Miller
Sally Crooks and her committee have a wonderful array of goodies for our December Christmas meeting. She’s keeping it simple with finger foods like
cheese, meat, crackers
veggies and dip
nachos and salsa
taffy apple salad
and of course, cookies ENJOY!!

For those members who did not attend the November 18th meeting, you missed a wonderful opportunity to vote on two important issues. The first was to change our meeting place from Bay Village Library to the North Olmsted Library. While I presented this option to the members for consideration, I must admit it was the members who gave me the idea. Comments like it having better lighting, being cleaner and having tables/chairs already set up started my mind working. Before long, I was thinking of things like it being more private, and having more room for expansion. But most importantly, it's more centralized which means we may gave a greater chance of increasing our membership with its convenience to 480 and areas south.
The vote results were 10 for, 4 against, and 2 didn't care one way or another.
The second item presented for a vote was our participation in the Youth Program. This will be a wonderful opportunity to teach young adults in grades 6 through 12 about the art of embroidery. By doing so, we hope to pass on this art, preserving it for future generations to enjoy. Cass Dreby and her committee will begin our journey this summer by seeking out a group like the Girl Scouts, etc. who wish to participate. If you are interested in joining her committee or being part of the teaching process, or know of a group you think would be interested, please contact Cass at 440-777-7085.
The vote results were 11 for, 4 against, and 1 didn't care one way or the other.
ROCKY RIVER NATURE CENTER QUILT SHOW
I’d like to thank all who selfishly volunteered their time by manning our table at the Rocky River Nature Center on November 14 and 15. Everyone had fun doing it and also had the opportunity to view the magnificent quilts that were displayed and take advantage of sales from the vendors who participated this year. Here are a couple of pictures featuring some of our volunteers.
